Round 2 with Grand Tuhon

It was a really snowy day when my family and I drove to Edmonton, AB. The wind was blowing, the sky was dark, and snow was falling nonstop. Good thing I swapped my Rav4’s summer tires to winter tires. If you live in a place like we do, you know why I switched. I lost track counting how many cars spun into the ditch. Good grief, people! Adjust your driving.

Even though the drive to Edmonton took over 5 hours. I was glad to be home with family during Canadian Thanksgiving. I am also extra grateful that Grand Tuhon Leo Gaje is in town. I have  a lot of respect for GT. He has been travelling all summer and continues to travel to teach and mentor people all over the world. Where does he get all of his energy?

GT Gaje and GM Lafantaisie. My Kali heroes. Living legends.

We appreciate all of those that drove to the second seminar. Training with GT was a nice Thanksgiving event. It was also nice to see familiar faces and some new ones. I would like to give a shout out to GM Gill Lafantaisie for coming up and supporting the seminar. GM Gill is one of my kali heroes. He has an excellent school-Black Dragon in Red Deer, AB. Also a big thank you to Ate/Sister Arlene with PTK-KDP for flying in from Maryland. It was her first time visiting Canada. I hope you had a great visit.

It would not be complete “ThanksKaligiving” without saying a HUGE thanks to Agalon Herald Casana. Herald organized and took care of everything to make this even happen. It’s not easy but he did a great job bringing this even together. Like my turkey, the seminar was well done! Plus he was GT’s fall guy. Thanks for taking all the hits, bro.

GT is such a happy person. How does that lock feel, Mike?

This was a very technical seminar. Bisecting line, apexes, one touch one kill were among the many skills. Again, learning from GT is hard to put into writing. You really have to be there to experience it. You need to immerse yourself in the art of Pekiti Tirsia Kali.  GT as per usual, went around every student to make sure they were taken care of. He would make corrections to each respective participants. There was consistent smiles and laughter in class. It was good to see each student helping each other get better. That’s how we roll.

Guro Edgar, GT and Agalon Arlene.

I’m not going to write everything that happened during the seminar. It’s impossible in short blog. If one was to write a book about his experience it would be written in volumes. This is me encouraging you to go to GT’s seminar wherever he may be. He has been to Europe, Mexico, USA, Canada and more. I promise you, you will not regret the experience.

GT and my three year old boy. “I wanna see GT, daddy!”

Thank you Grand Tuhon Leo Gaje for all that you do for us. Pekiti Tirsia Kali is strong in Canada. We will strive to train and better ourselves as martial artist and as individuals. We believe in life. We believe in health. We believe in Success. Until we see each other next year, may you be safe and God bless.

PS this was a lot of fun. KALIOKE!!!!
