From Canada to Manila Part 6

Right after breakfast we were back at it. I do apologize for not having a lot of pictures. The training was intense and I didn’t want to miss out on the opportunity. We were divided into smaller groups, instructors and intermediate. Under the guidance of Grand Tuhon, Tuhon Mick, Mandala Kanishka and other leaders the quality of training did not loose a beat. There were blisters, sore muscles and all sorts of aches. However, the smiles on people’s faces did not go away.

The evening ceremonies was very special. Here we learned about the history of the Philippines before the Spanish influence. Did you know that the Philippines was originally called Maharlika? They also had an indigenous writing called Baybayin. It’s unfortunate that scholars are now scrambling to recover this language.

Learning about Baybayin got my interest! I hope to learn more about my ancestral language. It’s sad that the Spanish was successful in destroying this language. However, they could not destroy KALI!

There were individuals that moved up in rank. It was great to see their hard work recognized. I was fortunate enough to be one of them. Please see our Facebook page to see more pictures.

I have a lot of respect for these men and women. They are an inspiration to me. The standard of my training has been raised to a much higher level thanks to them. I look forward to continuing the tradition and the love for the Filipino cultural discipline.
